Gateway and Assessment
At the end of the taught or practical period of the programme we will internally assess and confirm the learner’s level of learning to ensure they are ready to undertake the assessment. This process includes ensuring the showcase portfolio of evidence (see below) covers all the required learning outcomes of the standard, that we have completed mock assessments with the learner, and we judge them to have sufficient knowledge, skills and behaviours to pass the assessment. Apprenticeship standards are assessed independently by government approved End Point Assessment Organisations (EPAOs). EPAOs assess against a standard assessment plan linked to the relevant curriculum.
Depending on which apprenticeship standard your employee has been entered for, will depend on the assessment methodologies. A short explanation is below:
Portfolio of Evidence (All)
This is a collation of showcase evidence designed to show how the learner has learnt theory and developed the new skills and behaviours associated with the apprenticeship standard. The evidence for the portfolio is gathered over the course of the programme with support from the Skills Coach and employer.
Presentation (TLS)
Level 3 learners will be given a relevant topic to prepare and present to the external end point assessor, which will relate to specific learning outcomes of the standard. The presentation typically lasts 20 minutes with a further 30 minutes of questions.
Project Proposal including Title and Scope (ODM)
Level 5 learners will be required to present their project title and scope at Gateway to their external end point assessor before completing a detailed project proposal. The proposal will include an executive summary, introduction, scope, data analysis, implementation plan, financial budgeting, recommendations and conclusions along with supporting evidence.
Project Presentation (ODM)
Level 5 Learners will be required to deliver a 20-minute presentation which describes the objectives and outputs of their work-based project. Following the presentation, the learner will take part in a 40-minute question and answer session with the external end point assessor.
Professional Discussion/Interview (TLS, ODM, CDP)
This is a discussion between the learner and the external end point assessor designed to gauge the level of learning that has been achieved over the course of the programme. It is informed by the portfolio of evidence and covers specific learning outcomes of the standard not already covered by the presentations. The interview typically takes about 1 hour, and the learner is allowed to have notes to refer to throughout.
