Employer Commitment and Line Manager Support

As the training provider for your learner(s) we will support them in every way we can, but we do need a bit of help. Here is what we ask of the different parties involved.

The Employer

Usually, you have commissioned the apprenticeship in the first place. We ensure you have all the information you need, to put forward appropriate and eligible candidates for the programme. We are completely transparent to what we need from you to make the overall programme a success for the individual learners. Two things we ask are, you ensure candidates put forward are appropriate and eligible and for you to ensure they have sufficient time to undertake and complete the apprenticeship programme. Please do give this sufficient consideration. It is very important learners are supported throughout their programme.

The Line Manager
  1. First and foremost, please don’t put one of your team members onto an apprenticeship if you don’t think you can definitely support them with ring-fenced time to complete the programme.
  2. Secondly, we need to meet with you and your learner at least every 12 weeks to review your learners progress on the programme We will do this remotely on MS Teams or Zoom and we will only need you for 20 minutes, however your attendance at this meeting is a mandatory part of the apprenticeship programme. The purpose of this is for you to give us feedback on how you think your learner is doing and for us to have a 3-way discussion about the next 3 months of their programme so that you can support your learner with relevant work where possible.
  3. Thirdly, we require you to enable relevant time to be made available for your team to attend monthly workshops and coaching meetings and to complete 2 hours of focused learning plan activity time a week during their paid working hours.
  4. Finally, we do not expect any more from you, but we would be delighted with any interest you show in your learner’s progress and any help or interaction you can offer them to support their apprenticeship and more importantly to ensure your learner can apply the learning gleaned from the workshops and coaching.
The Learner

We recognise that not all of us are natural learners and we all learn in different ways. What’s universally true is, to enable learning to take place, we all need to focus and dedicate the time. The responsibility of the learner is to agree sensible deadlines for work with their Skills Coach and stick to them, to engage and participate at workshops and to communicate regularly with their Skills Coach, so that potential problems can be addressed before they become actual problems.
